Happy Halloween

I made some candy corn cupcakes for my grand daughter to take to her pre-school class for Halloween. Knowing the teachers would appreciate "sugar free" cupcakes--- I opted to make paper ones. *wink* Can you image a room full of hyper three year olds?

 Instead of candy inside each cupcake, there is a smiling spider inside... eeek!

I hope they enjoy them :-)

Scored... again

I came across a posting for a garage sale on Craigslist stating they were selling ephemera and art books. Any garage sale that advertises ephemera is one I am certainly going to!  right? Anywho, I got a box filled with fabulous-ness.... old keys, watch faces & parts, new bolts of wire and an old enameled tray....

 This cool box filled with small dog tags has words embossed on them...

Never used stamps....

Ten bags of cellophane envelopes, six small and six large bags of mica sheets and 21 bottles of Vivid dye ink....

A large stamp-o-graph with rulers and positioning papers, a heated transfer

tool and some colored domino tiles....

I also picked up some super old ephemera.... oooooooooo...

ahhhhhhhh...

 

 this baptismal document is from the 1800's....

 I got some old books from the 1800's as well....

 Along with some new books...

 New in the package papers and stamps, a jewelers mat, copper and sterling silver wire.....

 and bolts and bolts of ribbon....

 There is other odds and ends as well, but these are the highlights. I didn't get there right when it started, which was probably a good thing. I am needing to clean out my studio to make room for my newest treasures. *wink*

Who's Your Mummy?

I whipped up some super cute/easy Mummy necklaces for my grandsons kindergarten class....

 Of course, if your anything like me, you've got hundreds of those small laminate samples laying around along with gauze & wiggly eyes...

These came together rather fast, I only had to make 28.... so I figured I might as well individually package them...

 I used the wicked witches fingers I made previously to seal each bag...

Tomorrow is the carnival at his school.... so I whipped up a Barbie kitchen for the silent auction.

I had planned on making the matching fridge and stove, but time got away from me. It doesn't look like much, but once its all bedazzled with cellophane and ribbons... it'll probably fetch a couple of bucks.


Next year... Barbie gets the entire kitchen. maybe... *wink*

Antique Barbie Hutch

 I found a plastic Barbie hutch at a thrift store for .50¢ Even though it was missing a drawer and the hutch doors....
 
and something at the top of the hutch....
 it had good bones, so it came home with me. I added a plastic cameo to the center of the top of the hutch and surrounded it with some plastic beads. I used paper clay to fill in some gaps and to cover up the indentations where the doors on the hutch had once hung. I then glued some plastic beads to the edges of the hutch front.

 I had to add some illustration board to the inside of the hutch along the sides to hide the plastic pieces that held this thing together...

I also used illustration board to finish off the bottom part of the hutch. I opted not to make it a drawer.

I wanted to make this hutch into an antique piece, so I covered the entire piece with some tissue paper, which gave it a fabulous texture. Here it is all finished:

Here is a close up of the base of the hutch... it appears darker in this photo than it really is.

 The whole time I'm antiquing  this piece, I'm thinking to myself--- "I can see Chloe painting this purple when she is older" lol

 I am super happy with the transformation of this little plastic hutch...
 I have several other pieces that are needing some refinishing as well. I think the Barbie house I'm making for my grand daughter is going to have to come with a storage locker for all the extra furniture!
 

Pointy Paper Witches Shoes

It is no secret... I love to make stuff. With my grandson in kindergarten this year, I volunteered to be one of the "room mothers" of his class room. I know right? lol.... The first party of the school year is fast approaching. I wanted to make some party favors to pass out to everyone in the class.... so I whipped up some pointy witches shoes to fill with candy. I had to make several prototypes to come up with something that would pass as a pointy shoe. Here it is in all its colorful glory.

 I made the pattern for a pointy witches shoe, then scanned it to my computer and then simply cut 12x12 halloween scrapbooking paper down to 8 1/2x11 and printed the pattern directly to it. Easy-peasy.


 The hardest part was cutting out all of the pieces... gluing it together was tricky but I quickly found ways to speed that up as well.

I made a total of 34 pointy witches shoes...... Which I filled with candy :-)

I used black netting cut to 12 inch lengths to hold four pieces of candy tied up with black and white curling ribbon with a plastic spider ring to top it off....

I also made a two tiered shoe stand to transport the halloween goodies to my grandsons classroom....

I think they turned out rather cute!

Make Your Own Patches

I recently picked up this shirt that had printed patches on it at a yard sale for $1. I am collecting car related patches for my grandson.. slim pickings! I knew when I saw this shirt, I could turn the printed patches into real patches.
I cut out the patch images on the shirt leaving as much of a border as possible... I used some of the blue fabric of the same shirt for the backside of each patch. I drew lines to use as a sewing line around each patch I was creating...
Then, I stitched around the entire sewing line until I reached the very start of my sewing seam...I then cut a slit on the backside of each patch, pulling it inside out....
I ironed the stitched pieces so that they laid a little flatter, then I stitched closely around the edge of each new patch to finish it off. I was able to make seven patches from this one shirt....Not to shabby for a buck!
